Position Title: Conservation Intern

Start and end date: May to September, dates are flexible

Hours and Pay: 35-40 hours per week, $14 per hour

Accepting applications until: March 31st, 2021, or until position is filled

The Rockingham County Conservation Districts is seeking an intern to work on several conservation projects this summer. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, passionate about conservation, can work independently, and enjoys variety. Must be able to work in difficult conditions including high temperatures, exposure to ticks, poison ivy, dense brush, and carrying a 30 lb backpack. Must have your own car (mileage expenses will be reimbursed).

Job tasks will include:

  • Monitoring (inspecting) conservation easements on farmland, forests and wetlands
  • Controlling invasive plants with low-impact herbicide
  • Habitat restoration work including brush cutting and planting
  • Assisting with farm equipment rentals and workshops

On-the-job training will be provided however a successful applicant should be comfortable with navigating off-trail in the woods, the ability to use (or learn to use) GPS technology-GPS app for smartphone- to collect track, point and photo data. Previous knowledge of New England plan ID, basic map and compass skills are also helpful, but not essential.
